Links round up: the week ahead

Documentary Development Workshop: Monday 16 November

Are you a documentary maker? Here’s a free outreach workshop to encourage submissions to the Scottish Documentary Institute’s annual Bridging the Gap short documentary film competition. The event, presented by EM Media’s Talent Network in partnership with the Scottish Documentary Institute and QUAD, will include a screening of previous Bridging the Gap work. It’s on from 6pm to 9pm at QUAD. EM Media seem to be offline at the moment but keep checking back.

Active Ingredient on the Beeb: Monday 16 November

Nottingham interactive company Active Ingredient will be featured on Inside Out East Midlands with Heartlands, their award-winning mobile phone game controlled by the player’s heart rate. Watch the programme online from next week here.

AIR TIME ’09: Wednesday 18th November

Mediabox networking event: Thursday 19 November, 6pm-8pm

Currently working with or thinking about working with young people on media based projects? This free networking event is for organisations and freelancers. There’ll be advice, guidance and workshops, plus talks from Uzma Choudhry of Threshold Studios and Craig Berens of Nottinghamshire YMCA. Places are strictly limited. Unfortunately EM Media seem to be offline right now,  but keep checking back.

Business begins at home: Friday 20 November

Apparently it’s Global Entrepreneurship Week next week. Part of a series of East Midlands events, this day aims to give people thinking about setting up a business from home the information and advice they need to make it happen. (Downside: the risk of turning into a hermit and talking to much to the cat. Upside: flexible hours and more freedom.)
