At 6pm, Mark Harasimowicz and Tristan Hessing invite symposium delegates from Broadway to One Thoresby Street studios in Sneinton for the preview of a new film installation. (If you’re unable to make the Symposium, you are still welcome to come.) Harasimowicz and Hessing spent time cycling around Europe exploring contemporary and abandoned industrial space. Hinterland has commissioned a new work, which marks a new artistic partnership between the two artists.
Nottingham becomes a Skillset media academy
A consortium of education centres (Nottingham Trent University, New College Nottingham, Confetti, Broadway Cinema & Media Centre) have been given the status of Skillset Media Academy, joining a network of 22 other centres in the UK with the status, which basically means they’ve achieved a high level of training as endorsed by industry professionals. Past projects which the Academy have been involved with include the launch of New College Nottingham’s radio station with Channel 4 newsreader, Jon Snow, and involvement in the National Videogame Archive and videogame festival, GameCity. Not sure what it means to us Creative Nottingham types, but hopefully the enhanced Academy status will see more professional development training courses or enhanced funding to do training based stuff in Nottingham in the future.

Did any of you make the opening weekend of NC? Add your thoughts in comments please! Seems the gallery has been overrun with people wanting to take a look, but remember folks: like all good Euro art havens IT’S CLOSED MONDAYS!

Good times at the Goose Fair
Student mag Impact defend the fun of the fair as a great experience for Notts students. “Where else could you see a 25-year-old lady, lollipop in mouth and flashing braided hair? Or a real genuine Romany gypsy mother and daughter act, who export their wisdom from the sacred walls of a prefab caravan?”
Blimey that was quick – I blinked and we’re already onto podcast #30 of the best unsigned Nottingham acts, a genuinally impressive and prolific fix of regular new music and gig listings from the unlikely home of new music, Trent FM. A truly eclectic mix, it includes everything that sounds to my ears raging from Tori Amos to Wiley. Quiver’s “Facebook Song” comes recommended for web nerds.
