Writing stuff to make you smile

Apparently the whole Blue Monday phenomenon is actually a myth (though the New Order song of the same name is more legendary than mythical). But it’s still good to have interesting things to cheer us up right now. This week we have a near-smorgasbord of events, activities and opportunities for writers – and by writers. They are:

Getting started with novels – a workshop with Nicola Monaghan: Thursday 21 January

Learn about the art of novel writing from one of Nottingham’s most well known young writers.

12noon-2pm, Arts Graduate Seminar Room, University of Nottingham Graduate School. To sign up, email:

Theatre Writing Partnership: two opportunities for writers

Crossovers is looking for writers, performance poets, journalists, actors, novelists, screenwriters and live artists who want to explore the stage. Six will be chosen to go through a specially tailored development programme.

Ears Wide Open is an experiment in theatre for the ear offering two linked audio drama bursaries of £2000. They’re looking for two writers – one in the East Midlands and one in the West Midlands.

Deadlines for applications are in February so now is the time to apply!

NTU Live Lecture Series – Lisa le Feuvre: Friday 22nd January

The NTU Live Lecture Series continues with a talk from curator and writer Lisa le Feuvre. She will be discussing Failure: Error, Perfection, Dissatisfaction and Experiment. Sounds perfectly suited to the month of January…

The talk starts at 11am sharp. Apparently late comers will not be admitted!
