consultation event for the East Midlands visual arts sector

04.03.10 A consultation event for the East Midlands visual arts sector is taking place on 29 March.

The event will take place on 29 March, 10am-4pm, at QUAD in Derby and will be opened by Baroness Lola Young. It will provide a space in which emVAN can find out what people think a network for the visual arts might look like and how it could help them. They want to hear what you think the East Midlands is doing well and new ways you think that organisations, galleries, networks, artists and curators could work together.

Your suggestions and ideas will be discussed further at six county meetings that will take place in April and May. You can book for the event and stay up to date with the consultation by visitinghttp://www.derbyquad.co.uk/whats-on/other-events/emvan-consultation-event . Places are £5 (for refreshments); please book early to secure a place.

QUAD is part of an East Midlands visual arts steering group. The group is made up of staff from ten contemporary and historical visual arts organisations. They are The City Gallery, The Collection, Derby Museums & Art Gallery, Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, Hub: National Centre for Craft & Design, New Art Exchange, New Walk Museum, Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Nottingham Contemporary and QUAD.

The organisations came together in 2008 to begin talking about how the visual arts sector in the East Midlands could be made stronger if organisations worked together as a network. We have received funding from Arts Council England East Midlands to help make this happen as part of their national Turning Point visual arts network. The network’s structure and activities will be determined by the specific needs of the sector in the East Midlands. emVAN’s mission statement is ‘to be the voice for the visual arts in the East Midlands’.
