Scene and heard: ScreenLit Festival and Document Exhibition

Image by Gareth Kingdon, featured in Document

This week you might just see Chris Morris at large in Nottingham – or catch a fleeting glimpse of Rob Brydon pottering around the city. Perhaps even Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong. But you could spend more time getting up close and personal with these and other figures of the screen and entertainment world as part of the ScreenLit Festival of Film, TV and Writing which starts this Wednesday and goes on until the 29 April. We hear that a lot of tickets have sold out, but act fast and you may still have the opportunity to enjoy special screenings, talent development events for aspiring writers, British comedy events and the intriguing-sounding Nordic Noir.

There’s even more to get us thinking this week. From tomorrow until the 24 April, War on Want’s student photography exhibition, Document, is in Nottingham. The show, at the Surface Gallery, features distinctive, thought provoking images of poverty by five up-and-coming photographers, discovered through an international competition. You can find details of the brief for next year’s competition on the Document website.
