Oxjam Nottingham – be part of it

The city is already buzzing with the very welcome return of the students – and with it, a surge of energy that is driving us into Creative October.

Nottingham has a creative edge, for sure – with so many activities and creative experiences to be had by everyone, it has to be one of the most exciting places to be right now.

We’ve yet to say goodbye to September, and already October activities are beating down the door – and none more so, than the Oxjam Music Festival.

Music for a good cause

The return of this major community event led by Oxfam, as with previous years, has been taken up in a big way by the ‘mighty’ Nottingham music scene –  for starters, here are just a few of the gigs already scheduled to take place during the month.

Don’t forget, this extraordinary music event is happening all over the country – and Nottingham’s will be the best yet, so get involved, join in, and enjoy – there are plenty of ways you can be part of it, starting this weekend and running until the end of October.

Here are just some of the events taking place:

The Oxjam Night Out
Date: 2nd October 2010
Starts: 7.30pm to 1am
Venue: Malt Cross
How Much? Entrance is only £3 on the door.

Get down to the Malt Cross for some great live-music from some of the best folk musicians Nottingham has to offer! – Spaceships are cool – The Will Jeffery Band – Gallery 47Lisa De’Ville.

Paper Wings
Date: 8th October 2010
Starts: 7pm to 1am
Venue: Cape Bar, Hockley, Nottingham.
How much? Tickets are £3.50 – pay on the door or buy in advance from Cape Bar or

Paper Wings presents: A selection of Nottingham’s best ska and reggae bands, including: A is for ApeStuck in 2nd – and with more to be confirmed!

Oxjam Nottingham Takeover
Date: 9th October 2010
Starts: 2pm to 3am
Venue: Various Canning Circus venues
How much? Tickets are £6 from We Got Tickets or £7.50 on the day.

Oxjam Nottingham will be hitting Canning Circus in a MASSIVE way and on 9th October at seven venues across Nottingham, including The Ropewalk, Moog, Hand in Heart and others – and will be supplying you a mighty big portion of local music from 2pm until 3am!!

Music from the likes of Cultural Vibrations, I’m Not from London, Farmyard Records and many more!! There is going to be something for everyone – and it looks like it’s going to be a stormer!!

There will also be craft stalls, vintage clothing stall, food stalls.

For all you talented artists out there – there is also an art-off competition – instead of a hip-hop battle – two artists at a time will battle it out on canvas!

Nottingham’s Acoustic Oxjam Show
Date: 9th October 2010
Starts: 7pm – 11pm
Venue: Crocus Café, 2 Church Square, Lenton, Nottingham
How much? Entrance is £4

Crocus Café is the perfect setting for this event – with their community spirit ethos very fitting for this worthwhile charity show. It’s going to be an awesome show at that, and is a good opportunity for you to come and spend some money – help your local community, and communities across the world.

There will be food and drink available on the night, and the line up includes – Riot 4 Disco – Nick Akam – with more to follow.
