Getting it together

Artwork by Marek Tobolewski, Artist in Residence at Lakeside Arts

We all know we’re living in interesting times right now. A great antidote to the more, um, challenging side of interesting is sharing knowledge and skills. Here are two upcoming opportunities to get together with people of a similar inclination and prepare for what’s around the corner.

EM Media’s Talent Network: Digital Distribution and Marketing Strategies

This Thursday evening at Antenna, spend valuable time with others of a digital and filmmaking bent and uncover tools and strategies for the future:

Morgan Holt, Director at Transform, will share his considerable expertise in using digital and online to understand and engage your audience. Oli Harbottle, Head of Distribution at innovative UK distributors Dogwoof, will give practical tips about formulating your own winning digital distribution strategy.

Places are strictly limited so make sure to book ASAP.

Trampoline Upgrade!_East Midlands: Austerity vs Autonomy /DIY Funding

Getting together is also the name of the game with next month’s launch of Upgrade! East Midlands, an informal network for artists, curators, producers, cultural workers and others across the East Midlands working with art, new media, technology and digital cultures:

This first network gathering during Sideshow, the independent fringe to the prestigious British Art Show 7, will explore the challenges surrounding funding arts practice in the era of austerity. The meeting will operate as a platform for sharing methods of DIY funding, the emergence of distributed or networked frameworks for localised economies and an opportunity to pitch ideas for new culture fund, the Autonomous Art Fund (AAF).

As well as presentations, there’ll be opportunities to mingle and share ideas. You still have time to submit an abstract to present at the meeting relating to the idea of ‘DIY Funding/Creative Industry’. Find out more about what’s happening and how to get involved here.

Like someone once said, may you live in interesting times. In the best possible sense.
