Links Round-Up: Autumn Festivities

We’re coming round once again to that festive time of year: Halloween, bonfire night, and, before too long, the commercial juggernaut that is a good old modern Chrimbo! So what’s happening in the meantime to brighten our collective spirit? Well, a sprinkle of these might add some well-needed cheer, as the clocks go back and we all go home in the dark again…

Antenna are hosting a Bonfire Cocktail Evening next Friday, 5th November. Antenna’s cocktails are a powerful way to kick off your Friday night – one too many and you’ll definitely feel it in the morning! From their flyer:

It promises to be a starry evening full of ooooh’s and aaaah’s as you dive into our fabulous range of Bonfire Cocktails – designed exclusively for the occasion by our super-talented mixologist – and heart-warming tipples like spicy mulled cider. There’ll be mouth-watering, to-die-for treats including sweet, indulgent hand-made bonfire toffee, gourmet mushy peas with fresh mint sauce and rich, velvety pumpkin soup. Complete with plenty of entertainment and surprises – full of bangs, whizzes and sparkle, plus toffee apples at the bar!

Free entry on the door, 5pm til late.
• On a more professional note (unless you’re a professional mixologist, of course…) NTU are holding a special guest lecture this Tuesday, 2nd November. Executive chairman of Alliance Boots, Stefano Pessina, will be exploring The Crucial Value of Leadership and Entrepreneurship as he launches this year’s Business Leaders’ Lecture Series. Many thanks to our reader Daniel Little, who sent us the information and had this to say:
When I went freelance, I wanted to hear from people that had started a career and made something of themselves and I think even in todays economic times it is still important to hear that people can still start out on their own and although the business is different for each of the speakers those leadership skills transfer and the insight helps.
That’s a really great piece of advice, so for any budding entrepreneurs out there, this sounds like an excellent opportunity. The lecture will be held at the Newton Building, Nottingham Business School, from 6.30 pm until 8 pm. It is free to attend but places are limited and booking is required. To reserve a place, email the events team with your name, job title, organisation and contact details. Alternatively contact them by telephone on 0115 848 8732.
• Whilst on the subject of entrepreneurship, there is a new initiative building momentum within Antenna, the creative industries’ business centre located in Beck Street. Amplify (geddit? Antenna? Ho ho!) is a tiered support offering for startups, featuring training and mentoring, investment, finance and IT support, and even a base in the centre. For the full details see our community website or check out the Antenna site to see if you qualify.

And remember, if you have any tips, news, events information or just want to get in touch, you can email us directly at Creative Nottingham, or, to post information up straight away, send your info to, where it will be published to our community site in exactly the format you send it!
