“Precipitation falling from clouds in the form of ice crystals” has done something unusual to the world. Whether you think it looks pretty or it’s been a bit of a pain in the snowballs, the snow has certainly given us a different viewpoint. Despite the weather, things have probably warmed up a little for students protesting at Nottingham Uni today, now that they have had a visit from Billy Bragg.

If you’re in need of a fresh perspective after frozen skies and soggy streets this weekend, you could always try a visit to Dr Sketchy on the theme of a (naughty) nightmare before Christmas.

Seeing things differently was what inspired Trevor Baylis to invent the clockwork radio. You can hear him speak at the Transport iNet Innovation event at the National Space Centre in Leicester on Tuesday 7 December. Also taking place next week is a workshop which gives businesses a fresh view of designing with the environment in mind. And if you’re looking for new ways to keep your business growing in more chilly times, you may want to know more about a new online awards finder launched by Business Link.

Looking for other ways to escape the cold? You could try a special screening of the silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr Caligari on Tuesday night.

And if you’re gearing up to getting slushy over The X Factor this weekend, you might like to know that Nottingham has its very own Simon Cowell.

(* What a dinner party that would be)
