Sarah Godfrey - Partridge with Words

Sarah Godfrey - Partridge with WordsApparently – whisper it – there’s a possibility of a thaw. So if you’re inspired by temperatures of a whopping 4 degrees, get out the house and enjoy the best of Nottingham this weekend. What can we offer you? Piles and piles of locally made crafts, that’s what.

For starters, the thaw has meant that the “…And a Partridge in a Pear Tree” exhibition and fair at Rufford Abbey has reopened to the public. All gifts on sale are made by Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire crafters and artists, members of The Creative Greenhouse. (Incidentally doesn’t the concept of a ‘creative greenhouse’ sound great? A big tropical hub with bits of paper, material, wood and whatnot flying around… No? Just me? OK.) The Partridge fair is open at Rufford Abbey Tues-Suns until 3 January10-30-4.30.

If you don’t fancy the 24-hour art and music marathon taking place at the New Art Exchange from 10am today then why not pop over there on Sunday for some craft shopping and singing, Glee style, instead?

The Treasure Tree Craft Fair takes place at NAE from 11am and will feature a great range of locally made and inspired crafts, including jewellery, ceramics, photography, all perfect for Christmas. And from 4pm the NAE’s own YARD choir will be performing a medley of popular songs with a Christmas twist in a Glee style. (This probably isn’t the right time to tell you I’ve never seen Glee and therefore can’t elaborate on what a Glee style exactly is. It looks great though!) The choir will be led by Honey Williams.

While we’re in a craft fair kind of mood (and I usually am), the regular Apples and Pears and Crafty Wares will, for one day only, be in The Broadway’s Mezz bar this Sunday. All your favourites from the Sneinton regulars but relocated for a change. There’ll be art, there’ll be vintage bits and pieces and there’ll be mulled wine. Just what you need when seeking refuge from watching Harry Potter.

So if this doesn’t sort those awkward sods off your Christmas list and give you a good excuse to treat yourself then I don’t know what will. Happy mooching one and all!
