Christmas survival guide

CN_HappyChristmas1500

Christmas to most of us is about spending time with loved ones and taking a well-earned rest. It’s more about the giving than the receiving of presents – although face it, if you received no presents, you’d be pretty annoyed, no matter how saintly you are!

After the initial energy and excitement of the moment, and having had days cooped up with the relatives, you’ll be on the third round of turkey and stuffing sandwiches, and if you see one more brussel sprout, you’re going to run screaming….

Don’t worry! If this sounds like your ‘typical’ Christmas, and you’re already planning your escape – we could help with a few refreshing suggestions – as an alternative to ‘the sales’ – in our Christmas cultural survival guide – because it’s all going on in Notts:

Broadway Cinema & Café bar – open until 9pm Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Open as usual on all other days.

The Glee Club, Nottingham – New Year’s Eve and the Best in Live Stand-up Comedy.

The British Art Show 7 – still on at venues around Nottingham until 9th January – so don’t miss it!

“Biomass” exhibition at the Refectory Gallery, Hooton Street, Nottingham. From 21 December 2010 – 7th January 2011

Partridge in a Pear Tree exhibition at Rufford Gallery – open Christmas eve, and Boxing Day until 3rd Jan

For those with New Year aspirations, you could get your creative brain back into action by taking part in a competition or exhibition. There are plenty for all creative persuasions in Notts – but here’s a reminder of one, for starters:

Film-makers. The reed.co.uk second annual short-film competition – centred around the theme ‘Mondays’. Deadline: 28 February 2011.

The Creative Nottingham team would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year for 2011!

Thank you for supporting the creative community and sharing your thoughts and talents during 2010.
