World Book Day – on the catwalk

Tony Wellington Photography
Today is World Book Day! A day to celebrate all things book-ish, learned and wise. And, in Nottingham, a great excuse to tip our toes into the glamorous world of fashion.

If you’ve ever read Booker Prize-winning novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel, you’ll remember it’s the tale of a boy who travels across the ocean sharing his small boat with an enormous tiger. Not only is it a modern classic of the magical realism genre but it’s also the inspiration for a prize winning fashion collection.

Milly Jackson, student at Nottingham Trent University, has scooped the prize for Fashion Awareness Direct’s competition for 2011. Her collection features designs based on the magic, wildlife and philosophy of Life of Pi and what better way for us to celebrate World Book Day than by sending Milly a massive “Well done you!” for her achievements.

To find out more about Milly’s designs have a look at Vogue’s website (not often I can send you there…)

To find out more about slightly less glamorous but equally worthy World Book Day events have a look at the listings on their website.
