School’s Out for Summer

View _DSC5693 ..

Although the weather may be leading us to think otherwise, it is officially Summer and in true British spirit the beach is arriving at the Market Square this Friday for the third successive year. Yey!

As well as the sand for the little ones to get creative in, there is a huge paddling pool, fairground rides and stalls to keep the young and young at heart content. Or you can relax in the beach bar (complete with a new roof canopy!) sipping a cocktail and imagining yourself in more tropical climes. With the school holidays upon us there is no doubt of its success. Magicians, sandcastle competitions, Wildlife Trust activities and a children’s choir is scheduled in for daytime activities throughout August so there is plenty to keep the children amused and all for free!

In addition to the regular excitement there also promises to be some fantastic evening entertainment in the form of live bands, DJs, open air cinema and sport such as football and volleyball. So whatever the weather (and here’s hoping for sun!) head to the Market Place to enjoy a fantastic Summer 2011!

If the beach isn’t your thing then Nottingham Contemporary introduce Family Wednesdays providing a free creative session from 11am till 3pm each week from 27 July until the end of August for all ages. Play and Learn Assistants will be on hand in the galleries to guarantee fun times for all.

In addition Nottingham Contemporay have a very exciting digital project running every day through the Summer enabling you and your family and friends to create ten stop frame poses that will be sped up into a film and linked with others to be part of one of the longest films ever made. They also have costumes inspired by the Jean Genet exhibition and you can also create your own storyboard!
