Double celebration for Nottingham creative industry

As you may know this weekend the Wheee! Children’s Festival kicks off at Lakeside Arts Centre. As usual there is a broad range of fun creative events for youngsters including interactive theatre, puppetry and dance providing an incredibly magical experience. This is all rounded off at the end of the week with a Family Weekend in Highlands Park.

In conjunction with this sees the UK Premier of Exxopolis, a new Luminarium created by Nottingham  company Architects of Air. This is to celebrate AoA’s 20th birthday and Lakeside Arts 10th birthday!

To commemorate the company’s long association with Nottingham, Architects of Air, made the decision to involve local people in the “Windows Project” workshops to make the ten intricate stained glass windows in the main dome, inspired by the circular space of the Charter House in Southwell Cathedral!

The participant groups in the workshops were: Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum / Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership Forum/ Lakeside Arts Centre / The Lenton Centre / The Textile Workshop Nottingham / Meadows Partnership Trust / Meadows Art Group / East Midlands Parent Bloggers.

As blogger like to, well, blog here are some greats posts written by the East Midlands Parent Bloggers about the day creating the window (which doubled as a fundraising event for  “Blog it for Babies”, raising money for Save the Children – talk about multitasking!)…

This is just the start of a tour for the Exxopolis as it heads off to provide fun, imaginative experiences for the world. Don’t miss it while it is here in Nottingham! More details here.
