Nottingham has played an important role in the history of Asian arts and Culture in the UK and hosts on of the oldest Mela in the UK. Mela is a vibrant, colourful festival of South Asian and World cultures, bringing together music, dance, visual arts, film, street entertainment, South Asian cuisine, crafts and markets. So there really should be something for everyone here, indeed this years Mela is being called a Mela Fest and stretches across three venues and three key dates. Performances include international and UK based artists that represent traditional, popular and contemporary South Asian art forms, including PBN, Shane Solanki and MANDALA, a spectacular 3D Digital Projection on the Council building on the opening weekend of World Event Young Artists featuring music by Anoushka Shankar and Zakir Hussain.
