My name’s Becky and I run an online boutique called Pretty Dandy (www.prettydandy.co.uk), which I started in Nottingham in 2011 just before Christmas. It’s a quirkily little boutique full of creative, curious and covetable gifts and things for the home.
I am also the person behind the Pretty Dandy Flea – a craft & vintage market with a difference. We hold the Flea four times a year in the city and have been lucky to enjoy some wonderful venues, from an unusual old church to Broadway Cinema. We work hard to find interesting venues for our event, to give people a great experience at the market.
Our current venue is the Vintage Warehouse in Hockley, which is a wonderful old industrial space full of beams and skylights, brick walls and concrete floors. It has a really great aesthetic and we’re delighted that Greenshoots have welcomed us into their space!
For the first time ever our next event will take place over a whole weekend! We’ve had such an amazing response to our previous Pretty Dandy Flea events that I decided a two day market was the only way to go for our Christmas Flea. We’ve got some amazing stallholders booked in selling everything from art prints to vintage tea cups, lace-printed ceramics to intricate paper cuts and even hand made chocolates and fresh baked bread!
Saturday the 30th November will be what I’m calling “Pretty Dandy Flea Classic” – DJs playing fantastic tunes, a pop up cafe, craft workshops, free art activities for kids and over 30 amazing stalls. If you want to shop in a sane, Christmas-free environment then Saturday is the day for you!
As Sunday is the 1st of December, the start of Advent, I couldn’t resist giving the day a festive feel. We’re going to kick off Christmas in style with Christmas Crafts, carols, jingle bells, decorations and hopefully some mulled wine and perhaps even a visit from Santa! I love Christmas so this is a chance to get that warm fuzzy feeling and do a bit of shopping for unique, interesting gifts too!
I’m thrilled to be a part of such a creative community in Nottingham and to give people the chance to meet so many talented artists and designers and purchase their work. We’ve had great feedback from visitors, with people loving the party feel we’ve created and staying all day! We’ve also had wonderful support from the creative community of Nottingham, with people getting behind our idea of a fun, family-friendly cool flea market.
When I started the event it was inspired by the Brooklyn Flea in New York. I think I’ve captured a little of the magic of that great market and I hope if they came to Nottingham they’d be inspired by the Pretty Dandy Flea too!
Thank you for reading and a big thanks to Creative Nottingham for inviting me to be on their blog!
Pretty Dandy Flea will run on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December at Vintage Warehouse Building, Cranbrook Street, Hockley. The event will also include craft workshops, live DJs and a pop-up cafe. More info available here: www.prettydandy.co.uk/
