Guest blog: Calling all creative entrepreneurs!

Today we welcome Suzy Rai to the blog – she bribed us with cake, how could we refuse?

DSC_0604 V2-1Dezigne Boutique Department Store opened their doors for business just before Christmas and have started the New Year with great plans for helping artists; designers and creatives build a successful business. Not only are they offering space to display and sell locally produced arts, crafts and home wares on the ground floor of their shop, they have created a workshop/café bar space upstairs to provide business support to all local creative entrepreneurs.

This was music to my ears when I popped into the shop in December to ask if they would help promote a one day workshop I have developed to help creatives kick start the New Year with a solid plan to move their business forward.

I have been coaching people for nearly ten years now, building their confidence, helping them plan and manage their lives and businesses as well as supporting people in organisations be more effective in their jobs.

DSC_0606-1Imagine my delight when I was asked to develop a programme just for the shop, that could be used to launch their facility upstairs. It’s a great room, light and airy, with comfortable seating and the facility to serve light refreshments. It’s goes without saying that tea and cake will feature heavily during our workshops!

Each session will run from 1pm until 4pm on a Thursday (starting 16th January) and will look at helping you to develop very specific skills ranging from, writing product descriptions that will sell your work online through to pricing your work for profit and selling confidently face to face. Whether you dream of building a global design brand or just want to make a living for yourself from your work, you will be able to take something positive from these sessions.

Self-confidence and emotional wellbeing is woven into all of the work I do, sessions are relaxed and informal and always relate specifically to you and your business. Previous participants have left sessions feeling energized and motivated and much more positive about their ability to succeed.

Working with artists and designers through The Business Shaper, combines all of my passions and interests in one dream job.  I started my own creative business about two years ago, designing and making hand knitted accessories and with nearly 20 years experience in Business Support, I have always loved nurturing talent, providing guidance and building the skills in others that will help them to progress.

As my own small business begins to grow shoots, I can share my learning and experience and offer helpful advice.

Building a business from scratch takes hard work, focus, a deep passion and belief in what you do and great strength to keep going when things are tough. Having someone to listen, encourage and be supportive is so important in helping to maintain momentum.

These workshops will be the start of something exciting; a hub and a network of people with a passion for art and craft and a desire to make a living from their talent and creativity.
