The Sue Ryder shop has been on Goosegate for less than a year but already we feel a part of the Hockley creative family. With the approach of our anniversary we are asking for any creative locals to get involved with our latest project.

We pride ourselves on our reasonably priced vintage stock (which includes furniture) and creating a fun and nostalgic experience for all our customers. Yes, we are a charity shop but we aspire to be so much more than that. We want everyone in Nottingham to recognise Sue Ryder as a charity that pushes the boundaries.

I grew up visiting Nottingham as a teen and always ventured into Hockley (visits to Ice 9 mainly) so I have always been an admirer of the area. When I moved back to Nottingham as an adult I still enjoyed the creative spirit of Hockley and aspired to be a part of its rise after the recession. So much potential! With a background in charity/ vintage retail and a BA Degree I knew exactly what I wanted the Goosegate shop to be and with my like-minded Assistant Manager Sophie and team we are working hard to help in the rehabilitation of Hockley.

When we first opened last year on July 4th we began our Crafty Goose initiative; allowing local crafters/ designers to showcase their work in our specially made cabinet at the front of the shop. It was ambitious as we already had a lot to concentrate on but we filled all the available spaces and really enjoyed being able to show off Nottingham’s talent. Our aim this April is to revive and go all out with this project…with a twist.

We are looking for up-cyclers, sewing bees, DIY hobbyists, painters, graffiti artists and anyone else who has a good idea of how to turn our raw stock into something new and exciting to become part of our Crafty Goose gaggle! We have started to raise hems and paint worn out furniture but we really need the man power to make this a success.

Come to the shop and pitch an idea of something you would like to do/ try and we will help you to achieve it; become a Crafty Goose!
