Festival of Words banner with photos of many speakers

TFestival of Words banner with photos of many speakersoday I finally make it to an event for the Festival of Words. And then another. And another. And another. I’ve been saving them up… But seriously, there have been some great workshops and talks going on this week so if you’ve made it to any of them please let us know what you thought – and if, like me, you’ve got them lined up for the weekend we’d love to hear from you too! Full details of the rest of the festival can be found at their website.

Still on a bookish theme, the launch party for George Miles’ new book Views of Matlock Bath is taking place at Nottingham Contemporary on 22 October from 7pm. For those of you unfamiliar with George, he’s a lovely chap who takes FAB-ulous pics that inspire such lofty folk as Hilary Mantel. If you can’t make the launch, the pictures are on display at the Bonington Gallery until 31 October.

If books aren’t your bag, perhaps the return of the Hockley Hustle will float your boat instead? It’s back this weekend after a three year hiatus and is looking like a smasher – over 400 acts in venues across the city and all for charity. Get your wristband and full details at the website

And finally, if you’re suffering from Bake Off withdrawal, can I suggest you take a trip beyond the city to the far flung Harley Gallery at Welbeck? Their latest exhibition A Symphony of Curves,  contemporary plasterwork by master craftsman Geoffrey Preston, showing 1 November 2014 – 24 December 2014. Apparently plasterwork can look like an enormous iced wedding cake. Who’d have thought it?
