Rough Trade open new shop on Broad street


DSC_0075What do the people of Nottingham, New York and Brick Lane, London all have in common. Well, we all have a new Rough Trade shop. Though, shop is probably not an accurate description of the place. Rough trade aims to ‘shorten the distance between artists and audiences, to faithfully represent the creativity and artistic talent of the music. ‘ There is a shop, but venture upstairs and there is meeting space, café and a fully licensed bar, and a full diary of events, music, book readings, film and talks. Here is a summary of the events new week.

  • Saturday

Jim Noir launches new album “Finnish Line’

  • Sunday

Geraldine Warner, author of Vintage Knit: 25 Knitting & Crochet Patterns Refashioned for Today talks about vintage hand knit designs from 1920-60s.

  • Tuesday

Orka play live : When ORKA started they began with building their own instruments out of agricultural tools on a small farm on the Faroe Islands. ORKA has since then played venues and festivals all over the world

  • Wednesday

Whale men play live : Inspired by epic whaling expeditions of the early 19th Century from Britain to the South Pacific, round the South Sea Islands, the eponymous debut ‘Kings of the South Seas’ is a mesmerising and brave new album delving into the lives of the ‘whale men’

  • Thursday

Film screening : Shut up and play the hits, a film about LCD Soundsystem


They really want to work with the local creative community and so if you want to use the space to hold events, they are happy to talk and help us. So with the Five Leaves bookshop we now have some interesting places for talks, and creative conversations.

The shop officially opens tomorrow Friday 12th December, so pop along.
