How to get your news featured on the website

CreativeNottingham is run by a team of four volunteer editors who are all creative professionals, with a different editor running the site every week.  Find out more about us.

Other than telling you all about the many kick-ass things going on in Nottingham’s creative communities, our secondary aim for the site is to encourage more of you to publish your content online, blog or otherwise make your news and discussions available by using social media.  Nottingham businesses are slightly behind places like Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester when it comes to making the most of social media – and we’d like that to change.

If you’re perturbed by tweets, foxed by Facebook or riddled by RSS, check out this handy Beginner’s Guide to Blogging, written especially for creative freelancers by our editor, Susi O’Neill.

This is how we work:

We edit the site at least twice a week to bring you the latest stories.  We subscribe to email newsletters, Google Alerts, and RSS feeds to pick up the latest stories already published online. Please email us (editor@creativenottingham.com) to let us know about websites and newsletters we should be signing up to.

You can also send your submissions (press releases, news or tit-bits of information or gossip – which we always love to hear!) to editor@creativenottingham.com

Our preference is to link to articles, images and information that are already online.  CreativeNottingham isn’t a press release publishing service, we want to signpost readers onto somewhere else to find out more.  If you story is REALLY newsworthy we may publish it in full, but any wording is subject to our editorial, and any jargon (particularly public-sector gobbledy-gook) will be firmly shown the door.  If you don’t have your news online yet, here’s some things you could try:

1) Use a free online service to publish your documents or images as web pages like Posterous or Scribd
2) Set up a website to publish your professional or businesses news – the free versions of Blogger and WordPress will get you up and running in about 10  minutes.  Read the Beginner’s Guide to Blogging to get you started.
3) No website yet?  No problem, post your articles, photos, flyers and video to the CreativeNottingham Community site just by sending an email.

Submitting interesting articles to us

If you come across interesting articles during your web browsing you think we should know about, please send them to us either:
1) by email (editor@creativenottingham.com)

2) If you do Twitter, please follow us at @creativenotts , if you’re based in Nottinghamshire we’ll follow you back and you can then send us a direct message which will be sent to our email.

We have a Twitter account and a Facebook group which we use to find interesting stories, re-tweeting the best Twitter news daily taken from the Notts Creatives Twitter list.  To get on the list, DM us – we follow anyone who has Nottingham/Notts on their profile and their description is of a creative profession.

CreativeNottingham editorial policy

  • If it’s
    a) new
    b) creative or creatively inspired
    c) interesting and
    d) happening in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire we will cover it.
  • We can’t cover regular music promotion nights or club nights on a regular basis but if you’re starting a new night or are having a special event please let us know.
  • We will only feature performance events and exhibitions if there is a link to artists, performers or organisations based in Nottingham.  We won’t be letting our readers know that Ken Dodd is appearing in the panto at the Theatre Royal, for example.
  • If you want to know if your story has been featured, please check the website.  As there are several editors it can sometimes be difficult for us to respond to individual email requests.
